Happy 25th Anniversary, LITTLE MERMAID!

edited December 2014 in Disney
As I am sure you are all aware, November 17th was the 25th anniversary of "The Little Mermaid". (YES!!)
Recently, on http://www.deviantart.com/ (the website for DeviantArt, Inc., an online community showcasing various forms of user-made artwork), I found that one artist, under the channel name AverageJoeArtwork, got the (shall I just say) BRILLIANT idea of doing a 50-day art challenge for the occasion. (The gallery starts at this link: http://averagejoeartwork.deviantart.com/gallery/51345357/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge) Here are a couple of images that he made which I particularly like, and hope that you will, too (click on the links to view them):

1. Howard and Alan at the piano working on demos for the songs, with Sebastian and Ariel listening in (Such a sweet image, it really tugs at my heartstrings.) http://averagejoeartwork.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-29-491008663

2. Howard and Alan at the Oscars http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-35-492140493

3. Jodi Benson recording "Part of Your World" http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-13-487757307

4. The 2013 Disney Legends ceremony, with, *from left to right*, Paige O'Hara (Belle in "Beauty and the Beast"), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana in "The Princess and the Frog"), Jodi Benson (no intro needed!), Lea Salonga (singing voice for Jasmine ["Aladdin"] and Mulan), and Linda Larkin (speaking voice for Jasmine) http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-48-494610065

5. The cast of the Broadway show (featuring new songs, with lyrics by Glenn Slater, who has also worked with Alan Menken on Disney's "Home on the Range" and "Tangled', as well as the stage shows of "Leap of Faith" and "Sister Act")- Sierra Boggess as Ariel, Sean Palmer as Eric, Norm Lewis as Triton, Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula, Tyler Maynard and Derrick Baskin as Flotsam and Jetsam, Eddie Korbich as Scuttle, and Trevor Braun/Brian D'Addario as Flounder http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-43-493703867

6. The voice cast: *from left to right* Buddy Hackett (Scuttle), Paddi Edwards (Flotsam and Jetsam, the eels), Pat Carroll (Ursula), Ben Wright (Grimsby), Samuel E. Wright (Sebastian), Jodi Benson (Ariel), Jason Marin (Flounder), Christopher Daniel Barnes (Prince Eric), Kenneth Mars (King Triton), René Auberjonois (Chef Louis), Edie McClurg (Carlotta) and Frank Welker (Max the sheepdog, and Glut the shark) http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-10-487159143

7. The supervising animators: *clockwise* Andreas Deja (Triton), Matthew O'Callaghan (Eric)*, Ruben Aquino (Ursula), Glen Keane (Ariel)**, David Pruiksma (Flounder) and Duncan Marjoribanks (Sebastian) http://www.deviantart.com/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-9-486962300

8. 25th Anniversary spread, with all the characters from the film, its two video sequels, and the TV series, with some cameos of Howard, Alan, co-writer/co-director John Musker, co-director/co-writer Ron Clements, Jodi, the directing animators, and even Walt Disney and Hans Christian Andersen, themselves (!) http://www.deviantart.com/#/art/Little-Mermaid-50-Day-Challenge-DAY-50-495032643?hf=1

And, as an added treat, here are the lyrics to a rendition of "Part of Your World" that he wrote in honor of the film's 25 years of existence:

Look at this film, isn’t it neat?

Has everything that makes a movie complete

Hans Christian Andersen’s works can be such a… tragic thing

Walt tried to make, but the war was cold

Soon in the 80s, these directors now told

Disney their concept & then, well… put in everything

There were concepts & voice patent-pending

Such as Kramer & Captain Picard

A billion bubbles & an original ending

Before Jeff…

… made it more…

… like Die Hard…

The characters now are Disney’s classic stars

Done by a cast that sound so delighting

Animation done by hand; what do you call it?

An amazing feat

Howard & Alan’s songs went real far

Both won an Oscar for score and song writing

Attractions & rides found on, what’s that place again?

Main Street

A huge success, beat heaven’s dogs

Brought forth a decade-long renaissance

Made by Disney

From under the sea

To part of our world

A sequel soon came, it’s just the same; what a sad slaughter

A prequel and egad! It’s not too bad, continuity aside

A big Broadway show, which was so-so, though loved by John Travolta & his daughter

Princess power, none did cower, made Legends rise… !

Locations that show that you’d like to go

Many fan-theories & cameo-sightings

Disney Channel even took some television turns

So all & all, from land above

This is the one Disney film I most love… !

A grand silvery…

… Anniversary…

… Part of our…

… World

So, enjoy!

* Also supervising animator of Chef Louis and Glut (the shark)
** Glen Keane shared supervision of Ariel with Mark Henn, who also animated, to name just a few characters, Tiana ("The Princess and the Frog"), Fa Mulan and Fa Zhou ("Mulan"), Jasmine ("Aladdin"), Belle ("Beauty and the Beast", co-supervised by James Baxter), and Young Simba ("The Lion King").
