Odd Choice of Name

edited April 2015 in Theater
Does anyone remember Orin Scrivello, DDS, from LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS? Well, I just learned that "scrivello" is an old ivory-dealer's term for an elephant's tusk weighing less than 20 pounds. With this in mind, what in heaven's name would have possessed Howard to give the character such a name?

  • It's funny? Also elephant tusks are types of teeth so there is a vague connection. And it does sound like an Italian surname, to be fair.
  • @MondoMusicals Well, yeah, but did Howard even know what the word meant before he wrote the character, or did he learn it after the fact?
