"And the Oscar goes to..."

edited March 2015 in Songs
I have noticed that, from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST onwards, in all of the animated films that have won the Oscar for Best Song, the Oscar has always gone to the song which is recorded as a pop single over the end credits*:

1. Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson- "Beauty and the Beast" (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST)
2. Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle- "A Whole New World" (ALADDIN)
3. Elton John- "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (THE LION KING)
4. Vanessa Williams- "Colors of the Wind" (POCAHONTAS)
5. Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston- "When You Believe" (THE PRINCE OF EGYPT)
6. Phil Collins- "You'll Be In My Heart" (TARZAN)
7. Demi Lovato- "Let It Go" (FROZEN)

Does anyone have any idea WHY this is? I sure don't!

*A sort of exception is "We Belong Together" (TOY STORY 3)
