Howard as Actor

edited January 2015 in Actors and Directors
From this site and a reference in the narration of WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY, I know that Howard practically grew up in the Baltimore Children's Theater Association (or BCTA, as I prefer to call it for short), where I would assume that he was one of the star pupils.

I also know that, when working on a scene or a song in a stage show or a movie, he would act it out himself, so as to provide the actor(s) with a sort of sounding board.

With this in mind, I've been wondering: Why did Howard choose to be a lyricist/librettist/director instead of an actor?
